Jakson Deyer pitched five strong innings and Johnny Thomas hit a game-winning grand slam in the eighth inning to help the Hustlers break a six-game losing streak and beat the Cincinnati Steam 6-3 on Wednesday night in Lexington.
Deyer hurled 5 1/3 innings in the win, allowing two unearned runs and five hits en route to a five-strikeout performance. Thomas, whose home run in the eighth was his first of the summer, went 2-for-4 on the night with a run scored and four RBI.
Sam Kidd, Corey Bays, and Nick Sergakis also chipped in doubles for Lexington (5-6), and Taylor Rozier went 3-for-4, raising his average for the summer to a blistering .417. The bullpen was also solid for the Hustlers, as Matthew Miller, Connor Asay, Shaun Meyer and Brent Cobb combined for 3 2/3 innings, allowing a single unearned run. Cobb earned his third save of the season.
The Hustlers are back in action on Thursday against the Xenia Scouts, traveling to the AIA complex for a 7pm first pitch. Lexington returns home after a Saturday doubleheader at Southern Ohio to face the Stark County Terriers for two games on Sunday (2pm first pitch).
