Trio of Hustlers chosen in MLB draft

Adams first Asbury College player ever drafted

Southpaw Dave Middendorf and right-handed pitchers Gardner Adams and Casey Lucchese were all selected in the 2011 MLB Draft this past week. All three were on the pitching staff of the inaugural 2010 Hustlers.

Middendorf owned a 1.29 ERA with Lexington last summer, and was the 2011 GLVC Pitcher of the Year at Northern Kentucky. He was selected in the 22nd round by the Kansas City Royals.

Adams, who averaged ten strikeouts per nine innings last summer in Lexington, was chosen in the 36th round by the Atlanta Braves. He is the first player in the history of Asbury College to be drafted in any sport.

Lucchese, who also pitched for the 2010 Hustlers, was picked up in the 38th round by the Chicago Cubs. The College of Charleston closer was drafted by the Cubs in 2010 as well.
